FIDOS ON THE FARM

Sunday September 30 – October 28, 10:30 -11:30 am.

Join us on Sunday mornings for an hour exploring Great Country Farms with your dog! Spruce up basic manners, and try out new behaviors and tricks, all while enjoying the beauty and the challenges around the farm. Fun parkour exercises — aka “environmental agility” — improve your dog’s confidence and fitness, and we’ll mix it up with nose games and puzzles.

Dogs should be comfortable working around other dogs and people.

Buy a drop-in class pass, or take all five sessions for a discounted per-session price!

Drop-in Class pass: $40. All five sessions: $175. Maximum 6 dogs. Tuition includes all-day farm admission for one person on class day. Admission for leashed dogs is free!

CONNECTION, COOPERATION & CONTROL ON THE FARM

The Connection, Cooperation & Control (CCC)™ training system can help you create the kind of connection and cooperation you want with your dog. Firmly founded on the principles of Suzanne Clothier’s Relationship Centered Training™, CCC helps you create mutual connection with your dog, while you also develop cheerful cooperation. CCC on the Farm offers single-session “travel classes” for CCC alumni to build your teamwork around the delights and distractions of training in a rich farm environment!

PLAY WITH YOUR DOG, at Great Country Farms!

Joyful Dog celebrated its third year of classes at Great Country Farms in 2017, with new and exciting opportunities for you and your dog to play and work together including. We’ll be back in 2018 with client favorites, and new offerings. Some 2017 workshops included:

The same skills that you and your dog use for fetch, freestyle, and agility help you navigate everyday life challenges and situations. We mix it up, while you and Fido work and play in the rich farm setting. 

Joyful Dog also offers private lessons, Training Pairs, and special events at the farm during the May through October harvest season!

Teach your puppy that the world is fun, and that you are her favorite trainer, while she begins learning basic behavior! COGNITION AND CONFIDENCE

At Seneca Hill. Maximum 4 dogs. $90 for this 3-session class.
Saturday August 25 – September 8, 11:00 – 12:00.

  • Can your dog tell the difference between blue and yellow?
  • Can he point out the colors when you ask?
  • What if you asked him to read?

Joyful Dog’s Cognition and Confidence class gives your dog a chance to show you just how brilliant he is! Recent advances in our understanding of canine cognition, and simple but powerful games, will start you and your dog on a new journey of discovery.

In addition to the confidence that comes from using our brains in new ways, we’ll intersperse cognition training with exercises to help your dog build confidence with novel objects and surfaces, as well as exploring new patterns of movement.

Cognition and Confidence is a three-session introductory course. Your dog should be comfortable working around other dogs and people. A sit-stay or down-stay would be helpful, but is not required.

FEAR-FREE HANDLING

At Seneca Hill. Maximum 4 dogs. $40 for this single-session class.
Saturday, October 27, 12:30–1:45.

Learn ways to help your dog (and you!) become more comfortable with veterinary handling and grooming, as we introduce techniques to help your dog become a willing participant in his own care. We’ll touch on:

  • Mani-Pedi Time: Help for those pesky nail trims.
  • Weight Watchers: Getting Fido onto the scale.
  • A Visit to the “Spa”: Washing, clipping, and brushing your dog’s coat.
  • Alternatives to Biting: Teach your dog a new way to say “no, thank you” when he needs a break from a procedure.

INTRODUCTION TO TTOUCH®

MY DOG HAS SKILLS!

At Seneca Hill. Maximum 5 dogs. 6 hour-long sessions. $180.
Saturday September 15 through Saturday October 27 (no class September 22), 11:00 a.m. –12:00 p.m.

For adolescent and older dogs, the learning never stops! Help them perfect the skills you’d like them to have, to negotiate the sometimes challenging world of humans.

  • Would you like your dog to rest at your feet at the vet’s waiting room?
  • Does a squirrel cause your dog to “check out” instead of checking in?
  • Are you able to let your dog know when he can and cannot greet people and other dogs?

Over the six weeks in My Dog Has Skills, you and your dog will build good manners for the situations and distractions you experience every day.  We’ll also show you games and enrichment activities to stretch your dog’s brain!
