WINTER 2018

CIRCUS CANINE CLASS

At Seneca Hill. Maximum 4 dogs. 6 hour-long sessions. $180.
Saturday January 13–February 17, 11:00 a.m. – noon.

Sometimes navigating life with your dog may seem like a three-ring circus. Mealtimes become jumping events, while walks turn into weight-pulling competitions.

This January at Joyful Dog we embrace the circus theme, while helping you and your dog build CGC-level skills. We use props and patterns to enhance your training, as you strengthen skills to succeed with everyday challenges.

Tricks, you ask? Well, it wouldn’t be a circus without them!

LOVE THE LEASH℠

Special Two-Session Leash Walking Workshop!
At Seneca Hill. Maximum 4 dogs. 2 hour-long sessions. $60.
Saturday, February 23-March 3, 2018, 11:00 a.m. – noon.

End the Tug of War! Turn the tether into a subtle tool for communication and connection.

Leash-handling is a major player in our dogs’ behavior during walks, and yet little attention is given to helping humans and their dogs develop good leash skills. This class focuses on communication and collaboration between dog and handler, and will include fun connection games, as well as instruction and practice in handling skills.

In this two-session workshop you’ll learn ways to help you and your dog to loosen the leash, and to walk together in harmony. You’ll clarify the times that you need Lucy Lunger to walk nicely by your side, and when Sammy Sniffer is welcome to follow his nose.

We’ll help you explore equipment options to facilitate comfort and cooperation for you both, and will practice real-life leash-walking scenarios.

Wonder if this workshop is for you? Get in touch for more information!

FIDO'S LEARNING LAB

Saturday, April 21 & April 28, 2018, 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

  • Would you like to focus on a specific training goal?
  • Perhaps you’d like to explore Canine Cognition games.
  • Could another pair of eyes help you “debug” a sports skill?

In Fido’s Learning Lab we build our class sessions around your specific goals and challenges. Let us know what you’d like to learn in your Fido’s lab!

REACTIVE DOG CLASS Level 2

TBD, Maximum 4 dogs, Six 1 hour sessions. $280.

For graduates of our Reactive Dog Class Level 1, or by permission of instructors.

Continue building confidence, impulse control, focus, and calm in the presence of dogs and other stressors.

In this 6-week class, we will continue to work on changing your dog’s emotional state toward other dogs, as well as other stressors that your dog struggles with. We will build on skills and techniques learned in Level 1, and introduce new techniques to continue to help reduce reactivity with your dog.

We’ll focus on improving your experience walking with your dog, and on practicing everyday scenarios, including carefully-planned exercise drills with real life set-ups. You’ll continue to build and improve techniques for keeping your dog under threshold and thinking, in the presence of other dogs in the following situations:

Outdoors

  1. Walking with other dogs
  2. Passing other dogs
  3. Mock walks where you suddenly encounter another dog
  4. Walking in the presence of other stressors (skate boards, bicycles, joggers, etc)

Entering buildings and rooms

  1. Replicate entering and sitting in a Veterinary Hospital
  2. Replicate entering a pet retail store

We look forward to helping you to keep moving with your reactive dog in a positive stress-free direction!
